if you plan on recording here are the basics of what you need.
computer
daw software (ableton live, sony acid, sony vegas, audacity, cakewalk sonar, reaper, logic, protools, flstudio, studio one etc)
professional sound card with or without mic preamp
mic preamp if sound card doesnt have one.
mic stand
pop filter
condenser mic
closed back headphones

if you plan on making beats add
midi keyboard/drum controller

optional

studio monitors
sound proofing
sound booth
vst instruments
vst effects
sample dvds
