Judge Says No To New Trial For Inmate Involved In B.I.G. Case
Posted: Friday - December 12, 2008
Waymond Anderson, a former R&B singer and current inmate in a California prison, was denied a new trial after he claimed he was wrongly convicted of an arson related murder back in 1993 in Los Angeles.
According to Anderson, he is innocent of the charges because he was in Mississippi at the time, says the LA Times. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge William C. Ryan rejected Anderson's request, saying his efforts were "too little, much too late."
"This court finds it totally incredible that the defendant would not be able to state that he was in Mississippi ...when he was interviewed by the police after being arrested," Ryan wrote in his 32-page opinion. "Besides his obvious bias and motive to lie now, he is an admitted perjurer."
"The evidence that was presented in court was overwhelming that he was guilty," said Deputy Dist. Atty. Laura Jane Kessner.
Anderson is best known for his role in the B.I.G. case where he implicated former LAPD officers Rafael Perez and David Mack in the murder of the rapper. During a deposition B.I.G's family had against the city of Los Angeles, however, he reneged on his claims. He said that he went back on his word because Suge Knight sent him death threats.
