I think ive narrowed it down to the EXACT song!!!

P.Diddy "I Need A Girl Pt. 2"

I like that song dont get me wrong, but thats when radio started getting SOFT...that was tha song that started it all!!! Singles had to be about girls or dudes!!
Then from there it got softer and softer, then it got stupid....

Now, when i say downhill i mean mainstream wise...cuz WE ALL KNOW tha real cats are still doing it!!!

I would have to respectfully disagree. Although "I Need a Girl Pt. 2" wasn't Diddy's best work, he's put out some other great stuff. But more importantly, I would argue that hip hop isn't going downhill, but rather just changing.

There's new artists coming out all the time that are putting out some real amazing stuff, and Kanye and some of the bigger artists are continuing to do their thing.

I would say towards the end of the 90's that is when a lot of people started hating the current state of hiphop
