Its hard to stand out in a city full of stars, but instead of being intimidated by all the hype surrounding the Windy City's "overnight celebrities", 21 year-old rapper Chi City is confident he has what it takes to shine with the best of them. "I feel that I'm gonna be the next big artist to break out of Chicago ... thats going to really put Chicago in the spotlight like the south was...." ..explains the lyrical rhyme pusher who hails from Chi-Town's notorious Southside section. "There's a whole bunch of different styles in Chicago that cater to all types of people. Like Kanye, he speaks to the average person, thugs, backpackers, the ladies and we love and embrace him for that. Common speaks for the conscious listeners. Then there's a new generation of rappers like Shorty K, Marvo and myself that speak to the streets. We're all different, but its all Chicago. We all get that love. " With his whole city behind him, the young MC is ready to make the leap from a regional success to a nationwide contender.There couldn't be a better time for the self titled "Industry Ghostwriter" of the rap game to redirect rap back to a time when lyrics outweighed hooks and rappers focused on the power of their words rather than their material value.
Born and raised in the gang-infested neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side, Chi City grew up turning the negative images around him into moving street narratives. As a kid it was nearly impossible for him to escape the evil trappings of his hood. "Because of where I'm from, I'm gang affiliated", he explains. "Everybody around me was in a gang so I really didn't have a choice." Influenced by a young kid rapper Chi City took notice to on TV, the mind of a lyrical genius was sparked. By the age of 16, Chi City was already making a name for himself around Chicago's south side area. From freestyle battles to talent shows, Chi City was a rising star.
By The age of 17, Chi City had his own studio and was earning money by ghost writing for other artists, helping artist market and promote mixtapes which he produced himself, etc. As time passed, he started his own record label, O.M.O(On My Own) Entertainment, along with his cousin Suicide, and began to take his destiny into his hands. Other than being an artist himself, Chi City. is a also a recording engineer. "Me, myself, personally... I've probably recorded over 50 artist, cause I feel if the rap thing dont work out I still wanna do music...because I love putting the music together more than me actually recording it".
Chi City and O.M.O. Entertainment have currently linked up with Real Muzak Entertainment Group on the promotion and advancement of Chi City's career. Since then Chi City was chosen as one of 80 artists to perform at Slip N Slide DJs 1st Annual Artist Showcase in Florida. His skillful delivery and performance impressed Slip N Slide DJs and execs so much that he was asked to return to the Slip N Slide DJ convention held with Block Entertainment and other labels. Chi City was also chosen to perform at the B.E.T. Artist Showcase held in Columbus, Ohio. His track "Get Money" featured on the nationwidemixcd "A Vixen Affair the Mixtape Vol. 1" has been receiving rave reviews.
Chi City has released over 6 underground mixtapes.....and has been featured on over 35+ collaboration tracks, including a collaboration with a New York Based Dj Envy artist, Grand Finaal. "Man, me and Finaal is really cool.....I met him through one of my guys that say out in Harlem ...and when he heard my songs he was like man we gotta do a track together...and the rest is history". Presently working on the first of his O.M.O. Ent./Real Muzak Mixtapes, "Almost Signed", Chi City is in the studio dropping fire for the mixtape which is to be released nationally in the Summer of 08. Chi Citymixcds and mp3s will be available on the soon to be launched thisischi.com. Like his platinum Chi-town counterparts, Kanye West, Twista and Common, Chi City is destined to join his city's rap elite.
