I've upgraded to 8. It's been great for me, but some people have had issues with increased CPU usage. I would not upgrade if I were you unless you will seriously take the time to learn and use the new features.
If your system does what you need it to do now, just stay where you are. If you see something in 8 that will make your workload easier then grab it. Only do it if it makes sense to what you do, not because it's new and "supposedly" better.
Me? I love it to death. I traditionally did a lot of comping (Recording multiple takes of a verse for example, then piecing the best parts of each take together to get one great take) and do all of my beats in ProTools.
The new comping tool is awesome and midi production is just super now. The elastic audio feature is also very cool. You can basically make audio behave similar to how it behaves in Acid, and much more.
The creative collection (Xpand 2, Boom, Mini Grand, Vacuum) are pertty good if a bit limited.
Again, if stuff like comping and enhanced midi production are of no concern to you, then save your cash.
