IMO there are 5 things to look for in a great, Skills, Quality of Work, Longevity, Commercial apeal, and overall imnpact on the culture. With those standards it comes down to:
1.Nas 1.Jay-Z They both have at least 5 legitimate 4 star or better albums, Jay-Z has 12 platimun albums Nas has 9. NAs made the best hip-hop album ever, Jay-Z has been commercially better. 3.Biggie 4.Rakim 5.Eminem 6.Andre 3000 7.KRS-1 8.Ice Cube 9.Scarface 10.Tupac 11.Kanye West 12.LL Cool J 13.Common 14.Big Daddy Kane 15. Snoop

Its funny that a couple of people talked about Canibus! Don't forget his man Journalist. He's been out of the seen for a while but I heard some of his new stuff and it is fire!!!!!
