I think New York is going to get going very soon. West coast hip-hop is what it is. Just evolution in a different direction. No need to compare it to anything really. You hear the city through the people who spit it. That whole NYC/LA shit was more of a broadcast and media battle than some rapper beef. More to determine if NYC or Hollywood would control the most media. People lost their lives over that. Fucking stupid. At the time it was really the only outlet for rappers to get heard, and the contention for the number one spot put a couple poets in a ring and made them duke it out. It's sad that the media probably never truly hears the lyrics and creates a circumstance of being under a threat by hyping up drama from nothing. You could hear it in biggie's voice when he was talking about mo money mo problems. The fear that comes with getting your shit to get into the media to get loot. People don't normally want to be contentious under those circumstances. You make it you can chill right? Not if you're a rapper. Everyone wants to know how the black guy got the nice car, years after the civil rights movement. There's statistical evidence of institutionalized racism in nearly every facet of society, and the media amplified the idea of dangerous, scary black people to the point that it's an easy in for just about anybody to get on the TV. People getting shot for entertainment value and media publicity, that is fucking mental disease perpetrated by the media and police.

I think the west coast's heart was heavy for a long time after that shit. The music always comes around, people been dropping ill shit for ages. It really never stops on the west coast so fuck some hater shit, if you think it sucks then YOU fell off not everyone else.
