Default Just a lil advice needed.

Ok, I got a condenser not sure what type it is. Its hooked up to a phantom power, and I got lexicon alpha interface with cubase le4; with a pantheon plug in that comes with it (which I dont really know how to use lol). My dad hooked my up for xmas and the music guy apparently said, all these programs work specifically for that mic or for each other. Now Im using everything well, I just wanna add effects and stuff to my music and work on my production, just to get that real studio crispness, im having difficulty learning or finding simple stuff on how to use EQ or Compression, I want to be able to know how to use this stuff and what it exactly does rather than just make it sound better, Ive read the manual skimmingly in cubase but its abit brief so any tips/advice/links to tut's and info? another questions is, is there anything more I need equipment wise.

    Thanks.

i'll do a track free for you and give u notes on what i did to it if you want.

I'll need separate tracks, dry - no processing.

here's something i'm working on now - someone sent me separate tracks to be mixed - compare the "original" to "justamix (newest)" --its not finished, but will give u an idea of possible transformation. http://justastudiolondon.com/sikmik.html

If you want to learn - take time - there loads of websites - gearslutz.com is good if u know specifically what you want... and hundreds of threads on every part of production if u google.... just remember there is no solid rules --- processing isnt always the same for every tune and cant magically transform badly chosen sounds.

The most useful thing u can do is to listen to CD quality released material that you want to sound like through your setup - spend whole days doing it (seriously its as important as making beats) then u will know how your monitors respond and u can try to recreate that feel in your mixes..... references are essential. You should be able to get a pretty good mix with no processing (obviously u'll have to allow for obvious character changing effects) --- but the point is that simple practises like getting your fader leveling right can make all the difference.
